Message from Alumni

Pursuing a career in a multinational corporation has always been my goal, and the MSc in Global Business and Decision Analysis at PolyU helped turn this ambition into reality. Coming from a background in supply chain management, I found the programme gave me practical tools to tackle global business challenges with confidence. Subjects like Global Business and Business Analytics sharpened my ability to interpret complex data, improve operational efficiency, and make informed strategic decisions—skills I now apply every day. I also gained valuable techniques for negotiating across cultures, which taught me how to bridge cultural gaps and bring stakeholders together across regions.

A defining moment occurred during my interview for a Management Trainee role at a multinational firm. Faced with a case study, I was able to seamlessly apply the frameworks that I had learned through the curriculum. My solutions reflected real-world scenarios that I had practised in class and impressed the interviewers with their practicality and depth. It was a clear example of how the programme’s blend of theory and hands-on learning prepares students to excel in high-stakes environments.

Beyond technical skills, the programme placed strong emphasis on cross-cultural collaboration and adaptability. Working in multicultural teams during group projects helped me hone my ability to resolve conflict, build consensus, and lead effectively in fast-paced environments—skills critical for thriving in multinational workplaces.

For anyone aspiring to build a successful career in international business, this programme offers an invaluable launchpad.

One distinctive strength of the MSc in Global Business and Decision Analysis is its balanced curriculum. By offering flexibility to explore subjects from different business disciplines, the programme ensures that you build expertise in core areas like global supply chains, accounting and finance, and data analytics. For example, in the subject Models for Decision Making, I learned how to apply predictive models to real-world challenges, such as optimising shipping routes and assessing financial risks.

What sets the programme apart is its strong emphasis on practical learning. Theoretical concepts are consistently linked to real business scenarios, helping to develop skills that are immediately applicable. Case studies are embedded in the curriculum, allowing you to analyse authentic business scenarios ranging from expanding multinational operations to improving operational efficiency in a hands-on way.

The programme also empowers professionals to expand beyond their original area of expertise. I arrived with four years of experience in a specific domain, but limited exposure to strategic decision-making. Through collaborative learning with peers from diverse industries—including technology, consulting, and entrepreneurship—I’ve gained new perspectives and developed flexible approaches that I can apply to my career growth, business planning, and even personal decision making.
