Digital and information technology has been developing rapidly in the last decade. These technologies, such as 3D Printing, Internet of Things, Blockchain, among others, have revolutionized product and process innovation. We are now in the intelligent/smart manufacturing era! Products and manufacturing processes are now not just a connection between components and manufacturing systems respectively. In contrast, they are complex systems consisting of data collection and analysis systems, on top of traditional hardware and software. This brings companies with additional capabilities, flexibilities, connectivity, and so on, across various business functional units to create competitive advantages. In this connection, there is a need to adjust traditional operations management philosophy in order to transform companies in this intelligent/smart manufacturing era. This presentation aims to enlighten participants to rethink how product/process innovation and manufacturing operations should be designed and built to create and capture value for customers. This will link to a wide range of new strategic choices for companies.
