ASIA'S FIRST MEETING PROFESSIONALS INTERNATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE ESTABLISHED AT THE POLYU

The rapid growth of convention and event management as a profession in Asia has increased the need to train the right people to satisfy industry demand. That need is being addressed on several fronts, and the SHTM is excited to be a part of and leading many of those efforts.

As one of the leading hospitality and tourism schools in the world, the SHTM is mindful of the need to provide executive education to those responsible for planning and organising meetings and conventions.

Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is the industry's largest and most vibrant global community with more than 24,000 members in over 80 countries. When choosing a global training centre, one of the deciding factors for MPI is the prevalence of a strong business or management school. MPI is partnering with the SHTM to deliver elevated content on a local level for meeting and business event professionals. As a global centre of excellence in hospitality and tourism education for the 21st century, the SHTM is positioned to guide the development of the industry's future leaders.

With the signing of an agreement by Professor Kaye Chon, Director of the SHTM, and Mr Bruce MacMillan, MPI President and CEO, on 16 October 2009 on the PolyU campus, PolyU became the first Asian MPI Training Centre for meetings and business events at which all training modules will be offered. Having an MPI global training centre in Asia will definitely reinforce the strength of the local industry.
