ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION

Professor Bob McKercher was recently inducted into the International Academy for the Study of Tourism (IAST). IAST is an international organisation created to enhance both theoretical and practical research in the field of tourism, and its membership is limited to 75 highly accomplished tourism researchers from around the world. Professor McKercher joins SHTM colleagues Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Cathy Hsu and Professor Stephen Witt in the Academy. The SHTM is proud to have the largest number of IAST members of any university worldwide. Professor McKercher was also appointed a Fellow by the Council for Australian University Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE) in 2008 and formally inducted into the Council at the CAUTHE conference held in Perth in January 2009. The appointment recognises Professor McKercher's enduring commitment to hospitality and tourism education and research and the CAUTHE.

Professor Haiyan Song has received the Pengcheng Scholarship from the Zhengzhen Tourism College of Jinan University in mainland China. As a scholarship recipient, Professor Song will visit the College to present lectures and seminars on an occasional basis.
