PolyU Environmental Week 2012

We are pleased to inform you that PolyU Environmental Week 2012 will be held from 26 to 30 March 2012. The theme of this year’s Environmental Week is “Green Living, Living Green”. To reduce carbon footprints and thus combat global climate change, PolyU members are encouraged to adopt a green living style. A variety of activities are organized within the coming Environmental Week as follows :

·         Exhibition – “Green Living” (26 – 30 March 2012 at the Podium of DE Wing): this exhibition will show you many green tips in our daily lives. The green history of PolyU and the Hong Kong city (25th anniversary of Environmental Protection Department) will also be introduced. 

·         Photo Competition – “My Green PolyU” (26 – 30 March 2012 at PolyU’s facebook): to encourage PolyU members to portray the green features our campus, this competition has been held from 1 to 20 March 2012. Shortlisted photos will be displayed on PolyU’s facebook during the Environmental Week.  

·         Environmental Talk Series:
(1)   “Low Carbon Living” (16:30 – 17:45, 26 March 2012 at Lecture Theatre FJ303) – to be presented by Mr Benny Kwan, Environmental Protection Officer (Environmental Protection Department)
(2)   “Climate Change and Me” (16:30 – 17:45, 30 March 2012 at Room Y611) – to be presented by Mr Wing-Mo Leung, Ex-Assistant Director (Hong Kong Observatory)Prior registration for these talks is not required and seats are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. 

·         Mini Green Workshop – “The Culture of Indoor Plants” (18:30 – 19:30, 28 March 2012 at Room Y512):through this workshop, you may learn how to cultivate an indoor plant and afterwards, bring back home your own plant. Interested student or staff can register via the HSEO on-line enrolment system athttp://www.polyu.edu.hk/hseo/EnrolmentList.php within the period from 14 to 23 March 2012. Successful enrolment will be notified by email.   

·         Environmental Film Show – “The Cove海豚灣”(19:30 – 21:00, 29 March 2012 at the Jockey Club Auditorium) – this film is the Oscar Winner for Best Feature Documentary in 2010. It exposes the annual dolphin slaughter in Japan and related issues on keeping dolphins in captivity. It states that dolphins should not belong in captivity, and challenges the audience with a variety of thought provoking issues such as animal welfare, nature conservation, etc. Interested student or staff can register via the HSEO on-line enrolment system at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/hseo/EnrolmentList.phpwithin the period from 14 to 23 March 2012. Successful enrolment will be notified by email.
