Under the Occupational Safety & Health Ordinance (Chapter 295), every employer must, so far as reasonably practicable, ensure the safety and health at work of all its employees. 

At PolyU, departments and offices have the below arrangements in place at their offices, workshops, laboratories to fulfill the legal requirements. 

  • Assign and authorize safety and health duties to staff;
  • Conduct risk assessment to identify workplace hazards and their control measures;
  • Establish safe work procedures based on risk assessment results for PolyU staff to observe;
  • Provide PolyU staff with safe plant, equipment, materials, work environment and personal protective equipment for their work;
  • Give information, instruction and training to PolyU staff to enhance their safety and health awareness and make them competent in work;
  • Inspect workplaces and arrange work supervision to rectify unsafe work conditions and work behavior;
  • Report accidents and incidents; and
  • Review the effectiveness of all health and safety arrangements and seek continual improvement.

In addition, the university is responsible for providing places on campus without safety and health risks to its students for their study.
