To promote the importance of plant-based food in a healthy postpartum diet, we have co-organized a press conference cum award ceremony of cooking competition with Hong Kong Midwives Association. By analyzing the dietary data of postpartum women in 2024 and 2014, we found significant improvement in vegetables, dietary fibre and vitamin A intake, although the levels still fall short of dietary recommendations by the Department of Health. Near half of the participating mothers suffer from obesity and dyslipidemia, which is also a concern to be addressed.
In the cooking competition, the panel of judges has selected plant-based recipes that are both nutritious, tasty and appealing, and can be easily prepared by postpartum women. We will continue to translate evidence-based findings from academic research to actionable changes in the community.
