PolyU 3MT Competition 2025

The PolyU 3MT Competition 2025 was held on 2 July at the Chiang Chen Studio Theatre, with over 20 ELC colleagues attending this important campus event for research students. The 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) is a research communication competition that originated at the University of Queensland. Since its inception in 2008, it has gained international recognition and is now hosted by universities worldwide. The ELC introduced the 3MT competition at PolyU in 2023, and it is now co-organised annually by the Graduate School and the English Language Centre.
This year marked the third PolyU 3MT Competition and featured ten contestants, each representing a different faculty or school. The ELC supported the event by providing a briefing, four workshops, and two rehearsals for the contestants. Three ELC colleagues, Dr Jane Robbins, Dr Linda Lin, and Mr Adam Forrester, served as judges at the faculty/school-level competitions. The ELC’s role in the PolyU 3MT has strengthened our collaborations with the ten faculties and schools.
Representing the Faculty of Humanities—after winning the Faculty-level 3MT Competition— Ms Peng Yingying, a PhD student from CBS supervised by Faculty Dean Prof. Li Ping, earned the Second Runner-Up at the university level. Her presentation topic was "To Chat with Your (AI) Teacher or Not? It Only Takes Minutes to Spark Learning".
