EEC Teams Shine at SAUVC 2025 with Top Rankings and Innovation Award

Two teams from the Engineering Entrepreneurship Club (EEC), Manta Ray and Searious Business, showcased exceptional innovation and technical prowess at the Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge (SAUVC) 2025. The competition, held at Singapore Polytechnic from March 14 to 17, shortlisted 51 teams through video qualification, including 4 teams from Hong Kong. After the qualification test, 20 teams advanced to the finals, with PolyU EEC's two teams being the sole representatives from Hong Kong. Both teams secured top-five finishes, and earning acclaim for their creativity and engineering excellence. Manta Ray: Innovation Meets Ingenuity Team Manta Ray claimed 5th place in both qualifiers and finals but stood out by winning the Innovation Award for their unconventional AUV design. Their entry featured a Minecraft-built underwater simulator for testing, a repurposed cat bowl hull, and a Mac Mini as the submerged computer—a competition first. “Seeing our Mac Mini survive underwater was a thrill!” the team shared. Searious Business: Speed and Precision Team Searious Business dominated the qualifiers, being the fastest AUV in the qualification test. Their sleek, high-performance design carried them to a 4th-place finish in the finals. “Our focus was on optimizing speed and reliability. Ranking first in the qualifiers validated our strategy,” shared the team’s captain. A Celebration of Engineering Talent SAUVC, a leading Asia-Pacific robotics competition, challenges teams to design AUVs capable of completing complex underwater tasks autonomously. The strong performance of both teams at SAUVC 2025 reflects PolyU EEC's commitment to fostering innovation and engineering excellence.   For details, visit SAUVC Official Website or Instagram.
