Exchange Students

FAQ (for exchange students)

If you are from one of the PolyU's exchange partners and have been nominated by your university as an exchange student, you are considered as an exchange student. Please contact the Exchange Coordinator of your home university to confirm your eligibility as an exchange student. Otherwise, you are considered as a fee-paying student.

For students from PolyU Exchange Partners:

  • your English requirement is waived

 For students from Non-PolyU Exchange Partners, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • a TOEFL score of 80 (internet-based); or
  • IELTS overall score of 6.0; or
  • JEE English [內地應屆高考(英文科)] of 110 (out of 150); or
  • your English requirement can be waived if you have attained Grade C in GCSE / IGCSE / GCEOL English or Grade 4 in English at International Baccalaureate (IB)

You can take up to two 3-credit subjects.

If you wish to receive credits from the International Summer School subjects, please contact the appropriate academic authorities of your home university in advance. You are strongly advised to do this before applying for the International Summer School. Each subject carries three PolyU credits.

You can only change your selected subject(s) before the International Summer School starts. Please submit your application for change of subject(s) via email to the International Summer School (email address: summer.sch.polyu@polyu.edu.hk). Your application will be considered subject to vacancy and on a first-come, first-served basis.

You are required to submit an application for subject withdrawal to the International Summer School via email (email address: summer.sch.polyu@polyu.edu.hk) before the second last class and seek approval from both the subject lecturer concerned and the International Summer School coordinator. A handling fee of HKD110 per subject will be charged. The withdrawn subject will still be reported in your Assessment Result Notification and Transcript of Studies although it will not be counted in GPA calculation.

Yes, students shall attend all classes and an examination, and fulfill the assessment requirements as stipulated as required by the subject.

In case of queries, students can always consult their subject teachers.

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, MS Teams and Zoom are the major systems / tools to be used for online teaching. Your subject teacher will let you know which to use and provide you with the relevant installation information in advance.

The University has worked with the vendors to provide sufficient bandwidth and stability for the recommended tools. Teaching staff will ensure successful trial runs are done before the online sessions.

Students are advised to seek assistance from their subject teachers who will find a solution to tackle the problem(s) by getting support from the University if needed.
