Innovative insole received Cyberport funding
The proposal of an innovative insole using artificial intelligent technology for monitoring of foot pressure distribution to prevent chronic pain received HK$ 100,000 from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (2022). The selected proposal is developed by two of our year-3 nursing students, Ms Eunice Mak and Mr Killian Tang, [BSc (Hons) in Nursing programme], together with students from the Faculty of Business and the Department of Computing.
The incubated innovation, named PRESOLE, is designed for people whose work require prolonged standing, such as teachers and nurses. Sensors embedded in PRESOLE can detect uneven foot pressure and a notification will be sent via the mobile apps to alert the user. The student team believe that PRESOLE can help users maintain good posture for preventing chronic pain and reducing muscle discomfort.
PRESOLE was currently presented at the Dare To Change 2021–23 business pitch competition (青年企業家發展局「敢闖 。敢創」創業比賽) organised by the Young Entrepreneurs Development Council, a non-profit making charitable organisation aims to inspire and cultivate entrepreneurial spirit among Hong Kong’s young people.
• Ms Mei-tak Tsang, a year-5 student on the BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing programme, received the PolyU Outstanding Student Award of Department; Mr Wai-chun Tso, a year-2 student on the BSc (Hons) in Nursing programme, received the Presidential Student Leadership Award of Department 20 March. Congratulations!
• Dr Yim-wah Mak, Associate Professor, and Ms Yanfei Liu, Research Assistant, received the Excellent Paper Award 2022 by Chinese Nursing Management《中國護理管理》for their paper titled ‘Design and Implementation of Exercise Prescription for Prevention of Arm Lymphedema in Breast Cancer Survivors.’
• Dr Vivian Hui, Assistant Professor, received an Early Career Award from the Leadership and Education Award Donation (LEAD) Fund of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) in March at the Informatics Summit in Seattle, the USA. The award covered her registration for the AMIA 2023 Clinical Informatics Conference to present her research study title ‘Association between linguistic features and help-seeking among women with intimate partner violence in online health communities (OHCs)’.

BMC Geriatric; Guest Advisors for an Article Collection on ‘Family and Peer Facilitated/Led Interventions for Severe Mental Health Problems’ of
Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment.
