Aims and Characteristics

Programme Aims

This pre-registration nursing programme offers Bachelor’s degree holders in any discipline the opportunity to simultaneously earn professional credentials as a registered nurse and academic credentials, namely a Master’s degree. The programme prepares students to register as Registered Nurses with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong and to acquire the qualities needed to become future leaders in the profession. Its aims are as follows.

  1. To train students in holistic care that encompasses safe, ethical, legal and culturally sensitive nursing therapeutics provided to clients of all ages and their families in various healthcare settings.

  2. To prepare students to acquire the attributes of future nursing leaders through the assessment and translation of new knowledge to advance nursing practice.

Description

Our innovative approaches to learning and teaching enhance our students’ critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills, and our graduates are both leaders in the nursing profession and responsible global citizens.

Our modern facilities include nursing therapeutics laboratories (equipped and furnished as virtual clinical wards with simulation laboratories and other new technologies), mental health nursing laboratories, the Yuen Yuen Institute Chinese Medicinal Nursing Laboratory, the Dorothy Wong Intensive Care Laboratory, Gerontological Nursing Laboratory, the Integrative Health Clinic, the Herbal Medicine Learning Centre, the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Community Health Services, and the Yuen Yuen Institute Learning Resources Centre.

Field practice is organised in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, old age homes, day care centres and other community centres. We also offer a wide range of overseas student exchange programmes. To gain balanced and comprehensive clinical experiences, students have the opportunity to adapt to various practicum locations, environments and rotating work schedules.

A Global Nursing Leadership Scheme (GNLS) is embedded in the programme, with the aim of developing future nursing leaders with a global vision. Students joining the scheme can apply for the Global Nursing Leadership Scholarship to participate in overseas clinical attachments and other scholarly activities.
