It is with the greatest of pleasure that I congratulate the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on the occasion of its 80th Anniversary. Our respective institutions share the vision of a better world through Education, Research and Innovation. As we look back on your achievements on this anniversary, I'm sure you feel a great sense of pride in terms of your history, development and the contribution brought by your alumni to society and for its development. As a higher education and polytechnic institution, we at CentraleSupelec truly understand and appreciate your achievements.
But the world is facing challenging times. The societal challenges our graduates face in the realms of climate change, energy transition, water and resources management, urbanisation and world demography all engender major risks of inequity, poverty and in worse cases, confrontation and war.
For these reasons, we must still re-enforce our commitment and strengthen our investment for the future generations in their education as innovators, leaders and entrepreneurs. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is, for us, an esteemed partner and together I believe we could really tackle these new challenges of the XXlst century.
I deeply regret not being able to join you in November for your celebrations, but rest assured my thoughts are with you, along wishes for your growth and prosperity in the period to come.
