On behalf of the Government of Canada, congratulations to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on the occasion of the School’s 80th anniversary.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University should be proud of its 365,000 alumni who are living up to its motto “to learn and to apply, for the benefit of mankind.” Canada shares the Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s passion for high-quality education and the opportunities it creates in driving innovation, prosperity and the betterment of our communities. Since its founding in 1937, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has continuously deepened ties with Canada.

Today, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University offers student exchange programs with sixteen schools and partner institutions in Canada. These exchange programs provide students an opportunity to engage in the economy and education systems of a different country, while developing important intercultural competencies.  Beyond student exchanges, Canadian faculty also share strong partnerships with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, including many visiting Canadian professors at the university over the years. These opportunities bring Canadian and Hong Kong students and faculty together to build on the already strong and unique people-to-people ties between Canada and Hong Kong.

I invite the students and faculty members of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to continue to choose Canada as a premier destination for educational exchanges, teaching and research partnerships, and to leverage Canada’s world-class education system, state-of-the-art research facilities, and our welcoming, safe and multicultural campuses.

In an increasingly interconnected world and global economy, strengthening our people-to-people ties will be crucial in collectively tackling the world’s most pressing challenges. I also encourage students to connect with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University overseas alumni associations in Western and Eastern Canada, which were established to promote fellowship among former students and staff.

I wish every success to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as you celebrate your 80th anniversary. I look forward to continuing to grow the strong relationship between Canada and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for years to come.
