PolyU has a fine foundation of close relationship with different partners in Beijing, which renders staunch support to PolyU’s development in education, collaborative research and student enrichment in the city.
Since the debut of the Master of Social Work (China) programme with Peking University in 2002, PolyU has launched three programmes at Master’s level, one at Doctoral level (Doctor of Management). All have been approved by the Ministry of Education.
The establishment of China Social Work Research Centre in 2007 and the Research Centre on Chinese Linguistics in 2009 with Peking University have proved to be effective platforms to strengthen inter-institutional research. Currently there are over 120 active collaborative research projects running at different scales with our Beijing partners. One of the highlight projects is our collaboration with the China Academy of Space Technology in space exploration. Another noteworthy project that is expected to make great impact is the Joint research with Beijing University of Technology on sustainable high-density cities. The research outcome is bound to improve and transform living environment of millions of urban dwellers in China.
PolyU is also actively engaging in a wide range of student enrichment activities in Beijing, including student exchange, Work-Integrated-Education, Summer and Winter Schools, Youth Leadership Programme. These activities help to arouse students’ interest in learning, expand their cultural and global perspectives, and prepare them to become responsible citizens and community leaders in future.
To provide an effective collaborative platform for universities in pursuit of university social responsibility, PolyU founded University Social Responsibility Network (USRN) in 2015. Founding members include Peking University, Beijing Normal University and 9 other top world-renowned universities.
