Explore different imaging modalities for clinical musculoskeletal procedures

Biography

Dr Timothy Tin-Yan Lee is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his B.Eng. in Medical Engineering from the University of Hong Kong, his M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and his M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where his doctoral research focused on modelling and assessment of spinal diseases. During his Ph.D., he undertook a research attachment at Utrecht Medical Centre in the Netherlands, broadening his international clinical and research exposure in spine-related work.

Dr Lee’s research interests include 3D ultrasound for musculoskeletal assessment, spinal deformity progression prediction and AI-enabled musculoskeletal imaging. His work has been supported by the Hong Kong Government Research Grant Council General Research Fund, the Health and Medical Research Fund and the University Grant Council to further his research and contribution to the development of non-radiative, quantitative, and clinically meaningful approaches to scoliosis evaluation and treatment planning.

Dr Lee has published over peer-reviewed 30 journal papers in the field of scoliosis and musculoskeletal imaging. He has served as a reviewer for several international journals, including Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging and Biomedical and Health Informatics, Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research and Ultrasonics. In addition, Dr. Lee has mentored postdoctoral research fellows, PhD students, MPhil students, and research assistants. He is currently accepting highly motivated PhD students. Interested candidates are welcome to contact him by email with their CVs. Preference will be given to applicants with SCIE/SCI journal publications.
