Dr Jet Uy BUENCONSEJO’s research centres on Positive Youth Development (PYD), encompassing three interrelated areas: (1) the measurement and conceptualisation of PYD among children, adolescents, and emerging adults; (2) the examination of psychological and academic antecedents and outcomes associated with PYD attributes; and (3) the cross-cultural applicability of PYD processes across diverse socio-cultural contexts, particularly in East and Southeast Asia.

Before joining the Department of Applied Social Sciences of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a Research Assistant Professor, Jet served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Special Education and Counselling of The Education University of Hong Kong under the prestigious Research Grants Council Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme. He was also a visiting scholar at the Department of Psychosocial Science of the University of Bergen in Norway.

Jet has published in leading international journals such as Developmental Psychology, School Psychology, Human Development, Applied Developmental Science, and the Journal of Youth and Adolescence. He currently serves as an editor for the Review of General Psychology, European Journal of Developmental Psychology, and (incoming) the Journal of Research on Adolescence.

In terms of practice, Jet is a registered psychometrician (RPm) and psychologist (RPsy), providing psychological assessment and counselling for youth and adults with mental health issues and psycho-social concerns, and volunteers as a counsellor for migrant workers in Hong Kong. He has also taught undergraduate courses in psychology, counselling, and research methods. His broader research interests include adolescent and emerging adult mental health, positive education, artificial intelligence literacy, use of emerging technologies for social and emotional learning, and the psychology of religion and spirituality.
