Objectives

The objectives of this CoP are to:

  1. Identify and collect the freshmen’s preference, needs, and expectation about academic advising;
  2. Through a series of activities, share good practices with Academic Advisors in Departments/Schools on their way of engaging students and how to advise students;
  3. Develop E-learning packages of training sessions on Blackboard for academic advisors (especially new academic advisors) to learn and share experience;
  4. Organise seminar(s)/talk(s)/workshop(s)/conference to promote favourable environment for the building of person-person AA community; and
  5. Disseminate major findings across the university and across other institutions in Hong Kong.


Expected Outcomes

The major deliverables of the project include:

  1. a research report on the freshmen’s preference, needs, and expectation about Academic Advising;
  2. examples of good practices on AA;
  3. Sustainable E-learning packages of training sessions on Blackboard for sharing and learning of academic advising practices; and
  4. printed materials/publication to disseminate the development of the CoP to the PolyU and other UGC-funded institutions.


Planned Activities

  1. Surveys on academic advising to students to know their experience as well as their expectations of academic advising services at PolyU;
  2. Activities of face-to-face gathering and sharing experience;
  3. Workshops, seminars, talks and activites for academic advisors;
  4. E-learning packages of training sessions for academic advisors; and
  5. AA Funding to support departmental academic advising activities.

OGUR will further support the work of CoP facilitator/co-facilitator in the entire CoP from development to dissemination.
