To facilitate the Senior Year Admitted (SYA) freshmen’ adaptation into the first year of university study, the SYA Project specially designed a semester-long Peer Mentoring Programme (PMP) to support their needs with the guidance of experienced peers.

This programme recruited eight mentors from various disciplines, with each guiding two to three freshmen from similar academic backgrounds. Mentors were responsible to take the initiative to advise mentees on university study such as course registration, progression pattern, course work and so on. From mentors’ experience sharing, Mentees also received support on general university life encompassing the campus facilities, university resources and interpersonal relationships. Through frequent communication in the social media, this programme helped to build the first sustainable friendship at the university.

Comprehensively concluding participants’ comments, the SYA Project was glad that the curricular and co-curricular supports under PMP, their learning experience has been enhanced with better knowledge about PolyU as well as expanded social connection.

The coming PMP is expected to organize in September 2021. Stay tuned for the promotion.
