Congratulations to PolyU SYA Freshmen!

In view of the recent pandemic situation, the SYA Project switched the orientation activity especially for the Senior Year Admitted (SYA) freshmen of The Hong Polytechnic University to online mode. Eight Sessions of online orientation activity held from early August to early September attracted around 450 SYA freshmen to virtually participate in it for the essential information of studying at PolyU.

Colleagues from Counselling and Wellness Section (CWS) of Student Affairs Office (SAO) were invited to present in the orientation activity. Academic Advising Officers explained the General University Requirement (GUR) and graduation requirements of SYA students. Student Counsellors presented the differences in learning style between community college and university and stress coping skills. Student Ambassadors from SYA Project also shared their university lives as well as addressed freshmen’s concerns about the new environment in break-up rooms arranged in accordance with the discipline of Student Ambassadors and participating freshmen. The experience of the senior peer SYA students from the same discipline provided practical advice and resources to tackle their discipline-specific difficulties and encouraged freshmen to explore their university lives.

The SYA Project also made a one-stop online orientation with a series of short videos covering academic and non-academic support, unique learning experience of SYA student, mental wellness, campus life, etc. New SYA students are welcome to visit the online orientation to understand more about learning at PolyU.

Comprehensively concluding the evaluation and comments from the participants, the SYA Project was glad that the orientation activity helped their smooth transition to university. Wished that our SYA freshmen have a fruitful university life in this difficult period.

Students who have registered the orientation may access the recording and presentation materials in the SN_PolyU_C: Information Hub for SYA Students 2020-2021 (PolyU login required) via blackboard.
