No. We strongly advise applicants to submit their applications as early as possible. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and admission slots are limited. The application portal may close once all slots are filled, even if this occurs before the official deadline.

Yes, it is mandatory for all PolyU postgraduate applicants, and please prepare accordingly. For details, click here.

We encourage applicants to prepare for the English Proficiency Requirement as early as possible. However, you may submit your application even if you have not met this requirement. Conditional offers may be granted to strong candidates whose profiles closely align with our programme, on a case-by-case basis.

Applicant who receives a conditional offer must fulfill all specified condition(s) – including the English Proficiency Requirement and any other condition(s) – by the deadline stated in the ‘Notice of Offer’ in order to be officially admitted to the programme.

Yes, final year students can also apply. While relevant full-time work experience is preferred, strong academic records, interview performances and previous internship experiences will also be considered.

Applicants who do not meet the stated bachelor’s degree requirement but have a strong interest in the MScVSI programme may still submit an online application (including the application fee) and all required supporting documents for special consideration by the admission panel. Please note that no admission decision can be made until a complete application with all required documents has been submitted.

Yes, all shortlisted candidates are required to attend an admission interview, which will be conducted in English.

MScVSI classes are typically scheduled on weekday evenings and during the daytime on weekends. The language of instructions is English.

Part-time students typically need to take 3–4 subjects per semester over two years, with classes held on weekday evenings and weekends. The study pattern for the part-time mode can be found here.

Non-local students who require a student visa are generally not eligible for part-time study. However, if you live very close to Hong Kong and can commute 3–4 evenings per week to attend classes, you may also consider applying for the part-time mode.

No, this programme does not lead to an optometry practising license in Hong Kong. It is designed to provide advanced, interdisciplinary education in vision science for professionals from diverse backgrounds. For more details on the programme aims and characteristics, please click here.

Upon Receiving Admission Offer

To accept the admission offer, you should:

  • Indicate your acceptance and pay the non-refundable initial registration fee (equivalent to 9 credits of tuition for full-time study mode and 6 credits of tuition for part-time study mode) by the deadline stated in your ‘Notice of Offer’.
  • Submit the required documents for verification of your qualifications.

For non-local students who require a student visa to study in Hong Kong, they also need to:

  • Pay the student visa application fee via eAdmission as soon as possible.
  • Submit the required supporting documents for your student visa application to the Academic Registry at PolyU by express post within 10 days of accepting the offer.

All fees paid are non-refundable, except in the case of programme cancellation.

To meet the condition(s) of our offer, log in to the Online Notice of Offer page via eAdmission and complete the "Meeting Conditions" procedures once you have obtained the required qualifications and supporting documents, on or before the "Meet Condition Date".

 

Please pay the student visa application fee via eAdmission as soon as possible as the process takes time. Within 10 days of accepting your offer, mail the following documents in one package by express post to PolyU.

  • Completed student visa application form ID995A (available at https://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/ID995A.pdf) with a recent passport-size photo (55 x 45 mm) attached.
  • A copy of your Notice of Offer from PolyU (printable PDF version).
  • Mainland Chinese Identity Card (front and back), Household Registration Card, and Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau (front and back, if applicable).
  • A copy of your financial proof.

Yes, the Hong Kong Immigration Department requires all non-local students to provide proof of their ability to cover tuition fees and living expenses. This can be in the form of personal or family bank letters or bank statements.

Refer to the Guidelines on Submission of Required Documents for Qualification Verification for detailed instructions. You must submit verification documents for all qualifications listed in your application (except those obtained from PolyU and CityU). Failure to do so, or any discrepancies found, may result in your offer and registration being nullified, and fees paid will not be refunded.

You can proceed with online programme registration after your qualifications have been verified and all required fee are settled. You can check the status of your qualification verification via eAdmission.
