During the clinical placement in Madrid, I had the precious opportunity to engage in various aspects of optometry, learning from experienced ophthalmologists and optometrists. It was an eye-opening experience that provided invaluable insights and clinical skills.

Before the placement, I worried about the language barrier and adapting to a new environment. However, the hospital staff welcomed us warmly, communicating effectively in English and guiding us patiently. Learning from experienced professionals expanded my expertise. Witnessing their clinical proficiency and patient care strategies was invaluable. They shared patient histories and examination details before consultations, emphasizing patient-centred care and communication skills.

Our discussions also touched on optometry practices in Hong Kong and Spain, particularly myopia control methods like the MiYOSMART approach. This cultural exchange highlighted the importance of continuous learning.

This programme not only advanced my professional skills but also challenged me personally, fostering resilience in unfamiliar situations. Interacting with diverse patients highlighted how cultural differences influence eye care, emphasizing the importance of designing personalized treatment plans.
