Summary
The talk details strategies for expanding teleoptometry to advance access and quality in eye care for rural, Indigenous, and underserved communities in Canada. Hybrid care models using remote imaging, technician-assisted evaluations, and synchronous and asynchronous consultations to enable comprehensive assessment and management are highlighted. Key research findings show that remote refraction methods provide results comparable to traditional in-person exams with patient feedback emphasizing the need for clear clinician-patient communication. The presentation advocates leveraging partnerships across education, clinical practice, and community outreach to drive innovation, improve efficiency, and build sustainable care delivery models.
