Mr Kenneth Lo

Service-Learning Specialist (Project Development)

Profile

Kenneth is a PolyU alumnus. He earned his B.Sc in Enterprise Information Systems from the Department of Computing in 2010 and received his MPhil in Computer Sciences in 2014. He joined the then Office of Service-Learning, OSL (subsequently renamed Service-Learning and Leadership Office, SLLO) in 2012. Since then, he has been providing support to faculty members, conducting and disseminating research on service-learning. Kenneth has been key in establishing the international service-learning scene at PolyU. After 7 years of solid experiences in Cambodia, he helped to set up an offshore base in Cambodia to build up PolyU as a regional Service-Learning hub in Asia. Today, PolyU sends nearly 150 students and staff on service-learning projects to Cambodia every year. In addition to setting up service projects for our teachers, Kenneth also has an interest in technology for development and track record in developing engineering solutions for the underprivileged community. In 2014, he led a team to create the project "Lab in a Suitcase", which received the Best Digital Inclusion Silver Award in the 2014 Hong Kong ICT Awards. This solution was a mobile computer lab that contained a server with eLearning resources and mobile devices. It can be brought out to the site, and the batteries can provide 5-6 hours of power to the server and the wireless router, which is enough for one intensive teaching session. The lab was deployed in Cambodia & Rwanda in 2013 and 2014, reaching over 500 primary school students.
