Dr Emily Chen presented a co-authored paper entitled "Robots to the Rescue: Can Emerging Technology Help Solve the Labour Shortage in Tourism and Hospitality Industry?" and moderated a parallel session on "Mobility" at European Tourism Research in the Age of Sustainability and Technology in Vienna, Austria on 6 September 2023.
Professor Haiyan Song and Dr Karin Weber attended the 9th Advances in Tourism Marketing Conference in Bordeaux, France on 6-8 September 2023. Professor Song delivered a keynote on "Wine Tourism in China" and presented a co-authored paper entitled "Wine Tourism Experiences and Tourist Behavioural Intentions: A Theoretical Framework of Wine Tourism in Ningxia, China". Dr Weber presented a co-authored paper entitled "Entrepreneurial Decision-Making Logic and Restaurant Resilience".
Dr Bella Vongvisitsin presented a co-authored paper entitled "In Pursuit of Gender Affirmation and Social Acceptance: Medical Tourism from Transgender Perspectives" at the 3rd International Congress of Health-Oriented Tourism and Hospitality Conference in Bangkok, Thailand on 8-10 September 2023.
Dean Kaye Chon, Dr Catherine Cheung, Professor Kam Hung, Dr Deniz Kucukusta, Dr Michael Lin, Dr Crystal Shi and Dr Hailey Shin conducted the Special Lecture and Info Seminar at Grand Lisboa Palace Macau on 16 September 2023. Dean Chon delivered a Special Lecture "Hospitality and Tourism in the Post-Pandemic Era". Dr Cheung, Professor Hung, Dr Kucukusta, Dr Lin, Dr Shi and Dr Shin then ran an Information Sharing Session to introduce the SHTM's Master's and doctoral programmes.
Ms Julia Simpson, President & CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council, delivered a Dean's Distinguished Lecture entitled "T&T Trends" to SHTM's faculty, students and industry friends on 19 September 2023.
Dean Kaye Chon participated in the panel discussion on the topic "Unlocking the Potential of the Greater Bay Area with Special Focus on Macao-Hengqin Integration" at the 10th Global Tourism Economy Forum in Macau on 21-23 September 2023.
Dr Junchuan Wang moderated a panel session titled "Cultural Activities for a Better Life" at the 6th Academic Symposium on Convention, Exhibition and Cultural Activities in Zhuhai, China on 22-24 September 2023.
Professor Ki-Joon Back attended the 2023 International Academic Forum for Southern Food Culture Festival in Yeosu, Korea on 5-7 October.
Dr Ibrahim Mohammed attended the 19th International Convention on Tourism and Hospitality in Manila, Philippines on 7 October 2023.
Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Honggen Xiao, Dr Nicholas Thomas, Dr Yoohee Hwang, Dr Dagnachew Senbeto and Dr Crystal Shi attended the 42nd ISTTE Annual Conference in Toronto, Canada on 11-13 October 2023. Professor Song conducted a workshop "A Systematic Assessment of the Doctoral Education in Hospitality and Tourism Management". Dr Thomas presented a co-authored paper entitled "Lights Out and Away We Go: An Analysis of Travel Intentions for Formula One Grand Prix Events". Dr Senbeto presented a paper entitled "Technological Uncertainty and Career Resilience: The Role of Technology Self-Efficacy and Support for Innovation in Hospitality Education". Dr Hwang presented a co-authored paper entitled "Role of Online and Offline Tools in Fostering Students' Collaborative Learning and Its Consequences".
Dean Kaye Chon, Dr Janelle Chan, Dr Michael Lin and Dr Richard Qiu attended the PowerUp Education & Networking Hong Kong event organised by the HSMAI Greater China Chapter on 13 October 2023. Dean Chon delivered the welcoming remarks.
Dean Kaye Chon attended the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on 16-20 October 2023.
Professor Sam Kim delivered his invited speech "Can Technology Lead to Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism?" at the 12th International Conference on Asian Economic Development in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 17-18 October 2023.
Dr Ivanka Huang attended the 5th International Tourism and Retail Service Management Conference in Macau on 19-20 October 2023.
A number of SHTM staff members, including Dean Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Cathy Hsu, Professor Honggen Xiao, Dr Nicholas Thomas, Dr Lisa Gao and Dr Fanny Manner-Baldeon attended the 17th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook in Guilin, China on 26-28 October 2023. Dean Chon delivered opening and closing remarks. Professor Song spoke on a keynote entitled "Sustainable Travel Behaviour post-COVID-19". Professor Hsu participated in a technical session on "Digital Frontiers: Leveraging Technology for Sustainable Tourism". Dr Xiao moderated a technical session on "Empowering People in Tourism", while Dr Thomas participated in it.
