ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Hotel ICON, the SHTM's fully integrated teaching and research hotel, was honoured with the following accolades:
  • Bronze Medallist for the Best Romantic Staycation Hotel in Hong Kong, in the Expat Living Readers' Choice Awards 2022
  • Ranked one of the top and most affordable luxury hotels by The Times
  • TripAdvisor's most-reviewed hotel in Hong Kong with 8,800+ reviews
Four SHTM undergraduate students have received scholarships offered by the Club Manager's Association of Hong Kong: Miss Kyla Huang, a student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, Miss Ashley Kim, Miss Esther Liu and Miss Cheryl Tsang, students in the BSc(Hons) in Tourism and Events Management programme. To gain insight and experience, they will also join a mentoring programme in which they will shadow the General Managers of four private clubs.
SHTM students took first and second places in the Undergraduate Research Competition at the 2022 Virtual West Federation CHRIE Conference on 10-12 February. Under the guidance of Dr Daniel Leung, Miss Julie Yang, a final-year student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, took first place for a co-authored paper entitled "The Impact of Horizontal Camera Angle on Viewers' Expectation and Consideration towards the Portrayed Product". Second place went to Mr Anthony Liu, a Year 3 student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme under the guidance of Dr Catherine Cheung, for a co-authored paper entitled "The Way Forward for Tourism Recovery: An Empirical Study of Wuhan Tourism Destination Promotion and Destination Image in the Post COVID-19 Era".
The induction ceremony of the Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) HKPolyU Chapter was held on 18 February 2022. Led by Miss Sunny Hong, President of the Chapter, 32 SHTM students were inducted as new members, a testimony to their outstanding academic achievements.
  • Mr Pierre Perusset, General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, addressed the ceremony and shared an inspiring speech on the topic of "creativity" with the new ESD members.
