Dr Tony Tse participated in the Urban Land Institute Young Leaders Group: Panel Discussion of New Generation Hospitality held at the School on 1 August 2019.
Dr Markus Schuckert delivered the opening speech at the European IFITT Masterclass on e-Tourism in Vienna, Austria, 2-6 September 2019.
Professor Haiyan Song gave a keynote presentation on the topic "Establishing Causality - The Role of Economic Theory in Empirical Research" at the Seventh International Conference of the International Association for Tourism Economics in La Plata, Argentina, 3-6 September 2019.
Dr Honggen Xiao presented a paper entitled "When Truth is Power: An Institutional Ethnography of a Tourism Think-tank" at the 2019 Travel and Tourism Research Association Canada Chapter Conference in Saskatoon, Canada, 18-20 September.
Professor Haiyan Song was invited to speak on the topic "Cross-border Tourism Collaboration between mainland China and Hong Kong: A Lesson for Inter-Korean Tourism Collaboration" at The DMZ Forum 2019 in Goyang, Korea, 19-20 September.
Dr Honggen Xiao presented a paper entitled "Ideology and Cross-cultural Awareness in Contemporary Social Science: Doing and Communicating Tourism Research across Languages" at the 38th Annual International Society of Travel and Tourism Educators Conference in Vancouver, Canada, 21-25 September 2019.
Dr Barry Mak was invited to deliver a speech on "The Challenges of Tourism Development of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau in Greater Bay Area" at the 2019 Global Commercial Newspaper Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Tourism Economics Summit in Shenzhen, China, 22 September 2019.
Professor Sam Kim hosted a seminar entitled "Food Tourism and Research Competency" for 70 graduate students and staff at the University of Macau on 25 September 2019. On the same day, he delivered a seminar presentation entitled "Food Tourism" to 30 graduate students and staff members at the Macau University of Science and Technology.
Dr Mimi Li attended the Annual Conference of Tourism Sub-Committee in Shanghai, China, from 27-29 September 2019.
Dr Basak Denizci Guillet was invited to speak on the topic "Revenue Management 2.0" at the Global Conference on Business and Economics in Istanbul, Turkey, 30 September to 3 October 2019.
Dr Denis Tolkach attended the International Congress on Management of Sustainable Ecotourism Policies and Resources and Development Cooperation through ODA in Jeju, Korea, from 3-5 October 2019.
Professor Kaye Chon, Dr Tony Tse, Dr Kwanglim Seo and Ms Jacqui Shi attended the Second "One Belt, One Road, One Tourism" International Conference in Guilin, China from 13-15 October 2019. Professor Chon delivered a keynote speech entitled "Tourism in Asia: The Way Forward".
Professor Brian King led the THE-ICE Assessment Panel Workshop at the THE-ICE 13th IPoE (International Panel of Experts) Forum 2019 in Manila, the Philippines, 14-17 October.
A number of SHTM staff members, including Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Dr Sangwon Park, Dr Honggen Xiao and Dr Wantanee Suntikul, attended the 13th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook in Guilin, China, from 17-19 October 2019. Professor Chon delivered opening and closing remarks. Professor Song presented a paper entitled "Regional Tourism Growth in the Lens of PATA Visitor Forecasts". Dr Park presented a paper entitled "Using Big Data for Community Tourism Development". Dr Xiao moderated a technical session on "Applications of Data Analytics for Tourism Dispersal".
Dr Kam Hung presented a paper entitled "Chinese Travelers' Cruising Experience and Preference" at the World Maritime Conference 2019 in Shanghai, China, 20-22 October.
Dr Alice Hon and Dr Kam Hung attended the Tourism Tribune China Tourism Research Annual Conference 2019 in Tianjin, China on 26-27 October. Dr Hon presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Work Values of 90's Employees in Hotel and Tourism Industry".
Dr Hon and Dr Hung then attended the Second International Tourism and Retail Service Management Conference in Tianjin, China on 27-28 October. Dr Hon presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Impact of Organisational Cultures on Employee Turnover in the Hotel Industry". Dr Hung was invited for a panel discussion and chaired a concurrent paper session.
