MicroMasters in International Hospitality Management
Open for Enrolment Now
Launched in January 2017, the SHTM's MicroMasters in International Hospitality Management programme is an innovative approach to bridging the knowledge gap between higher education and the workplace. Offered on the non-profit edX platform, the online programme features four courses and is a credit bearing, accelerated Master's level offering that can stand alone or count towards entry to a traditional SHTM Master's degree. It has already attracted over 27,000 learners from 164 countries around the world.

Led by Dr Alice Hon, the fourth course in the programme, Managing Human Resources in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry, will be launched on 5 September. The courses have featured distinguished guest speakers including Professor Bruce Tracey from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, Professor Chris Roberts from DePaul University's School of Hospitality Leadership and Professor Thomas Baum from University of Strathclyde's Department of Human Resource Management.

Among the highlights of the MicroMasters programme are the live sessions conducted by leading scholars and seasoned industry executives from around the world. Managing Marketing in the Hospitality and Tourism, the third course of the programme launched on 9 June, featured two such sessions. The first was conducted by Mr Matthew Arnold, founder and Managing Director of TouchPoint, who discussed customer loyalty in the Asian five-star hotel sector. The second session was conducted by Mr Anthony Lau, Executive Director at the Hong Kong Tourism Board, who discussed Hong Kong as a travel destination and how to enhance visitors' experience once they arrive.

Upon successfully earning the MicroMasters credential, learners will be eligible to apply for the SHTM's Master of Science in International Hospitality Management programme: www.polyu.edu.hk/htm/msc/ihm

Learners who have completed all four courses and are admitted to the School's on-campus MSc in International Hospitality Management programme will be able to transfer a total of 9 credits earned through the MicroMasters credential.
