Dr Barry Mak was distinguished keynote speaker at the 21st International Conference on ISO & TQM in Zhuhai, China on 14-16 April 2017. Dr Mak delivered a keynote entitled "One-Belt, One-Road: Challenges for Entrepreneurs".
SHTM staff members including Professor Kaye Chon, Ms Forest Ma, Ms Anny Ho, Mr Raymond Kwong, Ms Erin Shin, Mr Ryan Smith and 5 MSc students Ms Beier Wang, Ms Jenny Xiao, Ms Niki Xu, Ms Jenny Li and Ms Linda Ng, attended the Asian Wine Festival at Hotel ICON in Hong Kong on 19 April 2017. The students discussed with attendees how the Master of Science in International Wine Management programme has deepened their understanding of the latest trends in the wine business and empowered them to lead the industry's future development.
Professor Kaye Chon spoke on "Education and Innovation: Experiences from the School of Hotel & Tourism Management" at the "Belt and Road" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summit in Hangzhou, China on 22 April 2017.
Professor Brian King attended "A Memorable Graduating Moment at PolyU" on 24 April 2017 as part of an impressive occasion for all non-local final year students, including Mainland Chinese students and international students, before they complete their studies at PolyU.
Mr Raymond Kwong presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Significance and Contributions of Group-based Learning to International Service Learning: A Case Study of Service Learning Course in Hospitality Management and Operations" at the 2017 IBCR International Conference in Marrakech, Morocco on 24-27 April.
Professor Kaye Chon delivered a keynote entitled "Can We Influence Identity Practices through Research?" at the 2017 TTRA Europe Chapter Conference in Angers, France on 25-28 April.
Dr Denis Tolkach and Ph.D. student Mr Matias Thuen Jorgensen attended the 8th International Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development: Issues, Challenges & Debates in Kathmandu, Nepal on 25-28 April 2017. Dr Tolkach presented a co-authored paper entitled "Tourists' (Un)Ethical Judgments in Hong Kong". Mr Jorgensen presented a paper entitled "Sustainability as Attraction - How Mundane Places and Practices Become Tourist Attractions in Scandinavia".
Dr Stephen Pratt presented a paper entitled "Purchasing Counterfeit Products among Tourists: Behavior and Attitudes" at the 1st International Conference on Yellow Tourism in Corfu, Greece on 27-29 April 2017.
Professor Kaye Chon delivered a talk on "Innovation and Leadership Quality Development" to the students from Sichuan Tourism University in Chengdu, China on 5 May 2017.
Ms Forest Ma, Dr Watson Baldwin and Ms Erin Shih attended the HOFEX 2017 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 8-11 May. Dr Baldwin and Ms Shih participated in a United States food demonstration on "Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute: Snow Crab and Pollock Roe".
Professor Hanqin Qiu presented a paper entitled "Using MOOCs to Facilitate Industry Liaison and Industry Training: An Example from The Hong Kong PolyU MicroMasters" at the Asian Conference on Technology in the Classroom in Kobe, Japan on 11-14 May 2017.
Professor Kaye Chon delivered a keynote speech on "Hotel ICON: The Crossfield between Academia and Industry Development" at the 2017 Council for Hospitality Management Education Annual Research Conference in Aalborg, Denmark on 16-20 May 2017.
Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Brian King, Professor Bob McKercher and Professor Rob Law attended the 2017 International Academy for the Study of Tourism Biennial Conference in Guangzhou, China on 21-25 May. Professor Law presented a paper entitled "Research Performance Evaluation".
Dr Karin Weber attended MPI Experiential Event Series - C2 Montreal in Montreal, Canada on 24-26 May 2017.
Dr Stephen Pratt, Dr Wantanee Suntikul and Dr Denis Tolkach attended the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism and Development at The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 24-26 May 2017. Dr Pratt and Dr Suntikul presented a co-authored paper entitled "Examining Economic Linkages and Leakages Between Accommodation and Agricultural Sectors in Bhutan". Dr Tolkach presented a paper entitled "Sustainable Tourism and Anarchism".
Dr Jinsoo Lee presented a paper entitled "Shopping Destination Competitiveness: Scale Development and Validation" at the 2017 Academy of Global Hospitality and Tourism Conference in Cheongju, Korea on 26-28 May.
