Renowned Hotelier Adrian Zecha Receives Inaugural SHTM Lifetime Achievement Award

Mr Adrian Zecha, founder of Aman Resorts, received the inaugural SHTM Lifetime Achievement Award from the SHTM at a ceremony held at Hotel ICON on 19 May 2016.

The School established the award to honour outstanding personalities who have contributed substantially to the development of hospitality and tourism industry in Hong Kong, the region and around the world. In awarding the distinction, the School seeks to recognise true leaders who help define the global hospitality landscape and advance the industry as a whole. Mr Adrian Zecha is the first recipient of this prestigious award.








10th International Forum on China Hotel Brand Development cum Asia-Europe Forum for World Hospitality and Tourism Education
A Resounding Success


Co-organised by the SHTM, the Tourism Administration of Guizhou Province and the Gui'an New District Administration Commission and hosted by the Gui'an New District Development and Investment Co Ltd, the 10th International Forum on China Hotel Brand Development cum Asia-Europe Forum for World Hospitality and Tourism Education was held in Gui'an New District, Guizhou Province, China on 21-22 April 2016, attracting over 530 delegates from around the world.
SHTM Successfully Hosts Student-run International Conference





Fifty-three undergraduate students from the SHTM formed an organising committee and ran HONG KONG 2016: 2nd Global Tourism & Hospitality Conference (GTHC) and 15th Asia Pacific Forum (APF) for Graduate Students Research in Tourism, which was held at Hotel ICON on 16-18 May 2016.




Inaugural Research Development Programme Launched




The Research Development Programme is an SHTM initiative that caters to the needs of hospitality and tourism academics, postgraduate research students and research staff from educational institutions worldwide. Designed to help participants develop their skills in advanced research methods, the inaugural programme took place on the SHTM premises on 19-20 May 2016.


ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION



Ms Kate, Mingjie Ji, a research student in the Doctor of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, won the Best Research Paper award for the Innovation and the Food & Beverage Consumer Theme and Best Overall Research Paper for her paper "Tourist Food Consumption: Interactive Effect of Novelty Seeking and Personality Traits" at the 25th Council for Hospitality Management Education Conference in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 4-6 May 2016.

19 May - Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Thailand

Led by Dr Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), an 18-member delegation visited the School. The SHTM and TCEB signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate and work together in the areas of Executive Education, Internship Programmes and Consultancy Services.

Professor Kaye Chon and Dr Sam Kim attended the 14th APacCHRIE Conference in Bangkok, Thailand on 11-13 May 2016. Professor Chon spoke on the topic "Where is the Blue Ocean?". Dr Kim presented a co-authored paper entitled "Differences in Willingness to Pay for a Restaurant Menu Price According to Hedonic Variables".
