ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Dr Qu Xiao was elected Director of Research for International CHRIE (I-CHRIE). His directorship will last for two years commencing July 2016. I-CHRIE is a non-profit professional association that provides programmes and services to continually improve the quality of global education, research, service and business operations in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Dr Tony Tse has been appointed by the Hong Kong SAR Government as a member of the Board of Directors of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong until 30 April 2018.
Ms Kate, Mingjie Ji, a research student in the Doctor of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, won the Best Research Paper award for the Innovation and the Food & Beverage Consumer Theme and Best Overall Research Paper for her paper "Tourist Food Consumption: Interactive Effect of Novelty Seeking and Personality Traits" at the 25th Council for Hospitality Management Education Conference in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 4-6 May 2016.
Miss Angel, Yutong Meng, a final-year student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, received 2nd Prize in the Undergraduate Student Best Research Paper category for her co-authored paper "Travel Motivations of Domestic Film Tourists: A Netnographic Study of Chinese Tourists to the Hengdian World Studios" at the 15th Asia Pacific Forum for Graduate Students Research in Tourism in Hong Kong on 16-18 May 2016.
Mr Danny Ho, Executive Pastry Chef at Hotel ICON, received the PATA Face of the Future 2016 award at the PATA Annual Summit 2016 in Guam, USA on 19 May. The award was presented in recognition of Mr Ho as an exceptional young tourism professional in the Asia-Pacific region. He oversees all pastry and bakery operations at the hotel, which also acts as an extension of the SHTM.
Professor Rob Law was recently honoured by the Emerald Publishing Group with an Emerald Citations of Excellence for 2016 award for three co-authored papers published in 2013: "Do We Believe in TripAdvisor? Examining Credibility Perceptions and Online Travelers' Attitude towards Using User-generated Content" in the Journal of Travel Research, "Predicting the Intention to Use Consumer-generated Media for Travel Planning" in Tourism Management and "Social Media in Tourism and Hospitality: A Literature Review" in the Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing. The award recognised the high quality of Professor Law's work.
At the 4th Interdisciplinary Tourism Conference and 8th World Conference for Graduate Research in Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure in Bodrum, Turkey on 24-29 May 2016, Professor Kaye Chon was recognised with an award for his outstanding contribution to the study of tourism. The Kaye Chon Recognition Award was also presented for the best conference paper. This award was created in Professor Kaye Chon's name in recognition of his lifelong achievements and contributions to tourism education and research.
