Recruitment for Executive Masters Underway

With its first batch of students already eagerly engaging in new ways of learning, the SHTM's Executive Masters (EM) in Global Hospitality Leadership programme is off to a flying start. Launched last November, the programme's first cohort of students comprises seasoned hospitality executives from both within and outside the hospitality sector.

Entry to the EM programme is open to candidates with a degree in any discipline and at least 5 years of industry experience at the management level. The programme is also open to candidates without a degree but with at least 10 to 15 years of industry experience at a senior level.

To suit the busy schedules of these industry professionals, the programme is open to part-time students only. The block-release nature of the programme - with each course offered intensively over two weekends - allows executives from Hong Kong, mainland China and further afield to attend. Once the programme begins, students are able to join in any semester.

Particular emphasis is placed on the development of leadership skills, the enhancement of decision-making capabilities, problem solving strategies and research competencies. To maintain a "round table" atmosphere and create a unique networking environment for management executives, the number of students is limited to 17. The learning and teaching method is focused on the participants, drawing on their experience in dedicated exercises and also encompassing intensive lectures, online seminars and group work.

With a teaching panel drawn from Hong Kong, France, the US and the UK, this innovative programme has a distinctly global flavour. It also has an innovative course menu. Apart from conventional courses covering such areas as finance and strategic management, the programme includes courses on corporate ethics, governance and the environment, technology and innovation.

The EM programme is currently admitting new students. For more information, please contact Programme Leader Dr Basak Denizci Guillet at basak.denizci@polyu.edu.hk or visit www.polyu.edu.hk/htm/em.
