RISUD EXCO Member receives Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award (Science and Technology)

Prof. WANG Tao, Executive Committee Member of the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD), Associate Director of the University Research Facility in Chemical and Environmental Analysis, Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and other five mainland research collaborators received the 2022 Second-Class Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award (Science and Technology) from the Ministry of Education for their research project on the chemical transformation mechanism of atmospheric reactive nitrogen oxides and their impacts on ozone and smog pollution. Achievements of RISUD member

Congratulations to Prof. Xiao Lin Zhao, RISUD member, for his recent achievements of being conferred with the prestigious Humboldt Research Award 2023 and elected as Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Prof. Zhao has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Award for his outstanding academic achievements, scientific research and subject leadership in the field of civil infrastructure. The award, granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, is given to internationally renowned academics whose discoveries, theories or insights have had a significant impact on their discipline and beyond, and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge academic achievements in the future. Additionally, Prof. Zhao has been elected as a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in the class of Technical & Environmental Sciences, in recognition of his contribution to the field of engineering and infrastructure. The Academy is a platform that brings together eminent scholars and practitioners from various disciplines to stimulate cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Congratulation to Dr Zhen Leng, RISUD member, had been elected as the President of The Board of Governors of Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering (APSE).  The executive board officers for the next two years.

RISUD EXCO Member awarded Gold Medal for Innovative Micro Hydropower Project at Geneva Inventions Expo

Congratulation to Prof. Yang Hongxing, Executive Committee Member of RISUD, awarded Gold Medal for Innovative Micro Hydropower Project at Geneva Inventions Expo. Prof. Yang’s project has the potential to revolutionize the way we supply power to the Water Intelligent Network (WIN) for managing water supplies and reducing water leakage from urban water pipelines.  Their recognition at the Expo is a testament to the University's outstanding research and innovation capabilities, and it reaffirms PolyU's position as a leading institution for cutting-edge research and development.

Congratulations to Prof. Shun-cheng Lee and Prof. Dan Tsang, members of RISUD, Prof. Xiangdong Li, Director of RISUD, and Prof. Tao Wang, Executive Committee Member of RISUD, achieving National Rank 7, National Rank 8, National Rank 13 and National Rank 30 respectively in Best Environmental Sciences Scientists in China 2023.

Congratulation to Prof. Tao Wang, Executive Committee Member of RISUD, has been awarded “Environmental Protection Science and Technology Award 2022 - Class 2” from The National Office for Science and Technology Awards. This award recognizes his outstanding achievements and contribution in the development of environmental protection science and technology.

RISUD EXCO Member proposes Guangdong–Hong Kong collaboration on renewable energy development towards “double carbon” goals

Ir Prof. YANG Hongxing, Executive Committee Member of RISUD, Member of the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Research Institute for Smart Energy (RISE) and Professor in the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering (BEEE) of PolyU, suggested Hong Kong to collaborate with Guangdong on renewable energy development, including constructing offshore wind energy generator facilities and investing in photovoltaic power projects in Guangdong, at the 2nd Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao–Greater Bay Area New Energy Industry International Summit Forum held on 1 March 2023. RISUD Member awarded the Innovation Award 2022 (First Prize) by China Energy Research Society

Congratulation to Prof. Meng Ni, Research Group Leader of RISUD, was awarded the Innovation Award 2022 (First Prize) by China Energy Research Society in recognition of his contributions to the mathematical modeling of fuel cells and electrolyzers. Prof. Ni has been researching fuel cells and electrolyzers for clean power generation and hydrogen production for 18 years, and has developed multi-scale models for high temperature electrolyzers, from microscale to system level, which have provided insights into design optimization.

RISUD member was Elected as Vice President of the International CIE and Chairman of CIE Hong Kong

Congratulation to Dr Wei Minchen Tommy, RISUD member, has been elected as the Vice President of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and the Chairman of CIE Hong Kong. Dr. Wei's election to this esteemed position is a testament to his knowledge and commitment to the lighting industry. His involvement in growth of light and related subjects, especially in international lighting standardization and recommendations.

RISUD member was elected as the chairman of the Energy Institute (Hong Kong Branch Session 2022/2023)

Congratulation to Ir Prof. Lu Lin Vivien, RISUD member, has been elected as Chairman of the Energy Institute (Hong Kong) Session 2022/2023. The Energy Institute (EIHK) is a professional organization for engineers and other professionals working in energy-related fields, and Ir Prof. Lu's extensive knowledge and experience in the energy-related field make her the perfect candidate for this position. Her appointment as Chairman of EIHK will allow her to lead the organization to new heights and make a significant impact in the energy-related field.
