RISUD JRF Final Annual Progress Research Salon: Air Pollution-induced Immune Impair and Respiratory Pathogen Colonisation

Air pollution is a leading environmental health risk, strongly associated with respiratory infections like pneumonia, influenza, and COVID-19. However, the biological mechanisms driving these epidemiological associations remain a critical research gap.

In this research salon, Prof. JIN will present the final annual progress of his project. The purpose of this research is to investigate how air pollution impairs host innate immunity and facilitates the colonisation and infection of airborne pathogens in the respiratory tract. 

By exploring the complex interactions between air pollutants, host defense systems, and the microbiome, the project aims to clarify how environmental exposures drive respiratory diseases, ultimately enabling precise mitigation strategies to reduce respiratory infections and improve public health in Hong Kong and globally.
