Summary

Building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) facades represent a promising avenue for energy savings in modern urban environments. Toward next-generation energy-plus buildings, this project aims to construct efficient solar harvesting windows by developing stable and scalable semi-transparent photovoltaic (ST-PV) technology for building applications. Organic photovoltaics (OPV) are selected for their inherent scalability, semi-transparency, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness. By leveraging advanced optical mechanisms and plasmonic materials at micro and nano scales, this project proposes a spectrally selective semi-transparent organic photovoltaic (ST-OPV) window capable of precise solar spectrum regulation.

In this research salon, Ir Prof. LU will present the first annual progress of her project on developing intrinsic semi-transparent photovoltaic modules for building glazing applications and formulating ST-OPV glazing systems.
