Summary

This research examines the evolution of the zero-emission bus (ZEB) market in Hong Kong, where penetration is low and government roadmaps are unclear. A model was developed to estimate ZEB growth and explore subsidy policies, revealing that without subsidies, only 66% of the fleet would be ZEBs by 2050. Long-term, low-intensity subsidies are recommended. A micro-simulation approach compared fuel options, showing E-buses are more cost-effective than H-buses in Shenzhen. In Hong Kong, hydrogen buses offer solutions to space constraints with longer ranges and shorter refueling times. Additionally, cybersecurity threats to shared EV fleets highlight the need for resilient systems.
