On 7 October 2026, NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade and Dallas Mavericks guard Max Christie visited The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) appearing alongside at the Shaw Sports Complex for a basketball fitness testing and campus exchange event jointly organised by Li-Ning Sports Science Research Centre, PolyU's Research Institute for Sports Science and Technology (RISports), and the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Sports Technology (BEST).

The visit marked the first high-profile guest appearance since the renaming of PolyU's Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) to the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Sports Technology (BEST). It was also the only university stop on Wade's Hong Kong tour and the first day of his 2026 Asia tour.

The closed-door session saw both athletes undergo a series of professional assessments, including running pose analysis, treadmill gait analysis, and 3D static foot scanning. Motion capture was conducted using a markerless system, allowing natural movement without the need for physical markers. They also performed shooting and layup drills while wearing dynamic plantar pressure measurement insoles, with PolyU staff, students, and guests observing firsthand the application of cutting-edge sports science technology.

During the interactive session, Wade personally taught his signature "Euro-step" footwork to members of the PolyU Men's Basketball Team, while Christie engaged in a shooting contest with student-athletes. Wade also completed a dunk during the event, much to the delight of those in attendance.

The event combined professional athletic testing, campus interaction, and basketball culture. Collecting data from world-class athletes is of significant value to the university's research, providing rare and high-quality datasets that can advance the development of sports science technologies and support the research and development of Li-Ning basketball products.
