The COMAC-PolyU Research Institute for Large Aircraft (RILA) was established in November 2024 as a joint initiative between the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The Institute is committed to advancing the development, innovation, and application of large aircraft technologies, thereby supporting China’s strategic objectives in the aviation sector. By leveraging PolyU’s expertise in aeronautical engineering and digital technologies alongside COMAC’s extensive experience in aircraft manufacturing and operations, RILA addresses critical challenges across the entire aircraft life cycle.
RILA’s research encompasses all stages of large aircraft development, including design, manufacturing, operation, maintenance, and recycling. Its key focus areas include digital-intelligent manufacturing, predictive maintenance, operational optimisation, and sustainable recycling solutions. The Institute aims to drive technological breakthroughs through the adoption of advanced digital tools, such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and digital twins.
Governed by a joint management committee, RILA fosters close collaboration between academia and industry, promotes talent development, and facilitates knowledge transfer. The Institute supports impactful joint research projects, patent applications, and high-quality publications, while providing training for postgraduate students and researchers. Through these joint efforts, RILA can enhance the competitiveness, reliability, and sustainability of China’s large aircraft sector, positioning Hong Kong as a significant contributor to both national and global aerospace innovation.
中國商飛—香港理工大學大飛機研究院（RILA）於2024年11月由中國商用飛機有限責任公司（中國商飛）與香港理工大學（理大）共同成立。研究院致力於推動大飛機技術的發展、創新與應用，支持國家航空產業的戰略目標。通過結合理大在航空工程及數字技術方面的專長，以及中國商飛在飛機製造與運營方面的豐富經驗，研究院旨在解決大飛機全生命週期中的關鍵挑戰。
RILA的研究涵蓋大飛機設計、製造、運營、維護及回收等全生命週期。其重點領域包括數字智能製造、預測性維護、運營優化及可持續回收解決方案。研究院積極運用人工智能、大數據分析及數位對映等先進數字工具，推動技術突破。
研究院由聯合管理委員會治理，促進學術與產業的緊密合作，推動人才培養與知識轉移。RILA鼓勵聯合科研有影響力的項目、專利申請及高水平的學術發表，並為研究生及研究人員提供培訓。通過共同努力，RILA定能提升中國大飛機的競爭力、可靠性與可持續性，並鞏固香港在國家及全球航空航天創新中的重要地位。
