(Shenzhen) The upcoming 2023 Cross-Strait&Hong Kong-Macao Design Innovation Youth Academic Forum was taken place in Shenzhen, China from 27 – 29 Oct 2023, providing a significant platform for young designers and academics to share innovative ideas and research in the field of design.
PhD Student, XU Yue from Research Centre for Cultural and Art Technology was invited to deliver a presentation titled “Parametric Design Attempts Based on Voronoi and Kangaroo: Reconstruction Design of the Labor Exchange in Mariupol during World War II.” This project underscores the vital role of parametric design as an essential tool for exploring unconventional forms and expanding the boundaries of design. Utilizing Grasshopper, a widely adopted parametric design editor, the research explores the reconstruction of a historic labor exchange in Mariupol, emphasizing John Hejduk's architectural principles regarding subject and object.
The presentation proposes a targeted reconstruction plan that reflects the harsh realities of war while shaping urban open spaces. The insights derived from this parametric design approach will serve as a valuable reference for architects engaged in similar practices.
The forum promises to foster collaboration and innovation among young talent across the region, further enhancing the dialogue within the design community.
