PAAI Retreat 2026

Today, PAAI successfully held its first Retreat, bringing together Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation), Prof. Yang Qiang, Director of PAAI and RIFL, Prof. Yang Hongxia, Executive Director of PAAI, the Management Committee members, researchers and administrative colleagues to exchange updates on ongoing initiatives, share research progress, and discuss future directions for the Academy. The retreat provided a valuable platform for fostering collaboration across research institutes, strengthening strategic alignment, and exploring opportunities for interdisciplinary partnerships.

The event commenced with opening remarks by Prof. Christopher Chao, who reaffirmed the University's strategic commitment to advancing artificial intelligence. He highlighted the pivotal role of PAAI in driving PolyU's future development and underscored the University's determination to prioritise resources and investments in AI-related initiatives to strengthen its leadership in this rapidly evolving field.

Prof. Yang Qiang, Director of PAAI, reviewed the Academy's key milestones and achievements during its inaugural year and shared his vision for the next phase of development. Prof. Yang Hongxia and Prof. Liu Yang subsequently presented the latest research achievements, industry collaborations, and future development plans of the Research Institute for Generative AI (RIGAI) and the Research Institute for Federated Learning (RIFL), respectively, highlighting the growing impact of PAAI's research ecosystem.  The retreat also featured a series of live demonstrations showcasing cutting-edge AI innovations developed by PAAI researchers.

Through insightful presentations, engaging discussions and technology demonstrations, the retreat reinforced PAAI's commitment to advancing world-class AI research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and delivering impactful innovations that benefit academia, industry and society.
