The Office of General University Requirements (OGUR) plays a pivotal role in students’ academic and personal development through the administration of General University Requirements (GUR) subjects. Through GUR, we empower PolyU students to realise their full potentials and achieve their academic goals.

GUR is an integral part of PolyU’s education. One of the key aims of GUR is to provide students with the opportunity to learn beyond their discipline of study and cultivate the following graduate attributes: professional competence, critical thinking, effective communication, problem solving, lifelong learning, ethical leadership and socially responsible global citizenship. OGUR works closely with the University to ensure the smooth administration of GUR subjects for students to select subjects based on their interests, learning needs and holistic development. Students can learn more about GUR through our OGUR website and GUR Subjects Library.

Since the inception of the new 4-year undergraduate education in 2012/13 academic year, we have conducted many evaluation studies which clearly show that GUR is able to promote holistic student development. We will strive to nurture PolyU students in their holistic development through GUR initiatives.
