Short Description

Professor Yiyuan Zhang earned her Ph.D. in Mechanical and Materials Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, following Master of Engineering (ME) and Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degrees from the China University of Geosciences. She is currently an SHS Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Prior to this appointment, Prof. Zhang served as an SHS Research Assistant Professor in the same department and as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Zhang’s research primarily focuses on fluid structuring, metamaterials, soft and smart manufacturing, and interfacial processes. Her significant contributions have been published in numerous prestigious journals, including Nature- and Science-family journals, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, and Materials Today. She also actively serves as a reviewer for leading peer-reviewed publications such as Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, and PNAS.
