Biography
Dr. Xiaolong Mi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Land Surveying and Geospatial Science at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He holds dual Ph.D. degrees in GNSS and Space Geodesy from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and in Spatial Sciences from Curtin University. His research centres on intelligent computational geodesy and resilient positioning, navigation and timing (PNT), integrating rigorous geodetic estimation and mathematical optimisation with physics-informed artificial intelligence. Spanning applications from terrestrial networks to deep-space exploration, his work addresses four interconnected areas: (1) high-precision GNSS data processing, atmospheric modelling and robust integer ambiguity resolution for terrestrial and low-altitude platforms; (2) precise orbit determination and constellation modelling for low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, supporting LEO-enhanced and LEO-enabled PNT; (3) space geodesy, orbit determination and autonomous positioning for lunar, planetary and cislunar missions; and (4) resilient and alternative PNT architectures, multi-sensor fusion and embodied intelligence for safety-critical autonomous navigation in GNSS-degraded or GNSS-denied environments.
Dr. Mi welcomes enquiries from highly motivated prospective PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and research assistants with backgrounds in space geodesy, GNSS, aerospace engineering, mathematics, computer science, artificial intelligence, robotics, optimisation, or related fields.
