Biography
Dr. Yan Xu is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Land Surveying and Geospatial Science at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his BSc degree from Peking University and PhD degree in Planetary Science from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on planetary magnetospheres, space plasma physics, and magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, with particular interests in the high-latitude and boundary regions of Jupiter and Saturn. His work combines in-situ spacecraft observations, remote sensing of planetary aurorae, and global magnetohydrodynamic simulations to investigate plasma dynamics and their coupling with planetary atmospheres and ionospheres. He has worked extensively with data from missions including Juno and Cassini, as well as remote-sensing observations such as those from the Hubble Space Telescope.
