Biography
Dr Majid Nazeer is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Land Surveying and Geospatial Science at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, working at the interface of remote sensing, coastal environmental science, and artificial intelligence. His research develops satellite, airborne, and ground-based sensing methods to monitor coastal water quality, blue carbon ecosystems, and urban environments under climate change, spanning the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond. His work has contributed to operational tools adopted by government agencies, including a real-time coastal water quality monitoring platform and technical guidance informing nature-based solutions planning in Hong Kong.
He has published more than 70 papers in journals including Science of Remote Sensing, Journal of Hydrology, Sustainable Cities and Society, and Earth-Science Reviews, with an h-index of 27 and over 2,600 citations (August, 2026). He has secured over HK$1.38 million as Principal Investigator on projects including blue carbon ecosystem research and a vegetation spectral library for Hong Kong, and contributes as Co-Investigator to further projects spanning urban forest canopy mapping and AI-driven environmental monitoring.
Dr Nazeer serves as Section Editor for the Kuwait Journal of Science and has guest-edited special issues for Remote Sensing, Climate, and Frontiers in Marine Science. He was recognised among the top 1% of peer reviewers worldwide by Web of Science/Publons and received the MDPI Remote Sensing Outstanding Reviewer Award. Currently, he is supervising a team of PhD, MPhil, and undergraduate researchers.
