Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Biology with Biotechnology (ABB) (2027/28 Intake)
HE Jingyun, Jenny
Admitted to The University of Washington Genetic Counseling Graduate Program
My journey in the BSc (Hons) in Applied Biology with Biotechnology (ABB) programme at PolyU was truly transformational. ABB did far more than impart knowledge; it cultivated in me the capacity for independent scientific research and the confidence to ask my own questions.
The dedicated professors helped me explore my interests, and through their patient mentorship, I undertook an exchange in the UK and Canada, conducting research as a volunteer at the second best children's hospital - SickKids hospital in the world. With their continued guidance, I was admitted into a highly competitive Genetic Counseling master's programme in North America, where only six international students were admitted out of 669 matched applicants in 2026.
Beyond academics, ABB gave me lasting friendships and a clearer vision of my future. It was more than a programme of study; it was a crucible where my aspirations were shaped and set into motion. I am immensely grateful for my time at PolyU.

Neuroscience PhD Candidate | McGill University
The BSc (Hons) in Applied Biology with Biotechnology (ABB) programme emphasises the importance of science with an outlook of applying this knowledge to real-life pursuits in biotechnology.
The supportive team of dedicated, world-class academics have helped propel my curiosity for human biology and provide a rigourous academic training. I have been granted numerous opportunities to grow both academically and personally; ABB has a vast network of international collaborations that enriched my undergraduate studies, allowing me to train as a researcher in Canada and the United Kingdom alongside my studies in Hong Kong in preparation for my graduate school ambitions.
I am currently pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience at McGill University investigating RNA-based gene therapies for rare neurodevelopmental disorders. My time at PolyU has allowed me to explore multiple facets of human biology and medicine, eventually shaping my interest in the brain and giving me a platform to pursue these interests, armed with the best possible tools as I continue to grow in my academic journey.
