Our Specialization
Building Services, Construction and Safety (BCS) Stream is composed of expertise on three main technical domains, (i) Intelligent & Well Building, (ii) Digital Construction and iii) Safety. We deploy this expertise to support researchers and students to apply cutting-edge technologies, including Extended Reality (xR), Building Information Modelling (BIM), IoT and Smart Control, Robotics and 3D Printing to Architecture Engineer and Construction (AEC) industry. BCS has the following facilities for teaching, research and industrial showcase purpose.
1. xR – “xR Corner” serving with virtual reality head-mounted display (HTC VIVE), virtual reality CAVE and mixed reality head-mounted display (Microsoft HoloLens)
2. BIM – “BIM Zone” equipped with a computer laboratory and project area.
3. IoT and Smart Control – A full-size, functional “Smart Elderly Home” research platform.
4. Robotics – A set of synchronised Autonomous Collaborative Robots designed for Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) purposes.
5. 3D Printing – “Concrete Printing Corner” with two large-scale 3D concrete printers (robotic armed based and gantry based) and material testing equipment.
