Derek is the Silk Connect Leader of Deloitte Global, the Special Situation Leader of Deloitte Asia Pacific, and the Vice Chair of Deloitte China.  He was previously the Managing Partner of Deloitte China Southern Region and the National Leader of Financial Advisory, Deloitte China. In addition, he was on the board of Deloitte China for 2 terms.  Derek is also a Deputy President of the Hong Kong Shandong Community Organizations and a member of HKCPPCC.

 

Silk Connect initiative is a globally connected, multidisciplinary collaboration platform leveraging the extensive Deloitte Corridor Network to foster cross-border and cross-business units opportunities along China's Belt & Road Initiative.  Today, we have already extended our footprints to 17 corridors (covering 128 countries) across the globe, with an aim to deliver seamless, high-quality professional services to our clients consistently in connection with their China cross-border investments (including infrastructure, M&A, trade, etc.).

 

Derek has extensive experience in the Mainland China, including disposal of interests in Joint Ventures/businesses and assets.  He has advised clients on appropriate exit strategies for the Mainland China investments so as to maximize returns and minimize any adverse consequences. 

 

Derek is an Adjunct Professor in City University of Hong Kong.  He frequently contributes articles in newspapers and books on the topics of liquidations, bankruptcies and receiverships in Hong Kong and the Mainland China. Derek is also a frequent speaker at numerous courses organized by universities and professional organizations.

Sarah is the Tax & Legal Chief Operating Officer of Deloitte Global and also the APICE Leader at Deloitte China.  She led the China Indirect Tax and Customs team from 2008 until end of May 2020 and the AP Indirect Tax and the AP Customs CoE from 2016 until the end of 2019.

 

Sarah works with clients in planning and implementing complicated VAT and Customs structures both in China and globally. She is experienced in resolving some of the most complicated Customs matters regarding TP Valuations, Classifications and Anti-smuggling. Her main interest also lies in implementing supply chain structures combining the optimal export VAT refund structure, utilizing Customs driven reliefs.  Although she has in-depth experience in a number of industries, such as luxury products, manufacturing industry and automotive industry, her specialism lies in the Life Science and Pharmaceutical sector.  She is the global indirect tax and Customs lead for some of Deloitte's most strategic clients.  For the past few years, she has worked as a domestic expert with the Chinese Government on the design and approach of the VAT Reform.

 

Sarah issued many articles or books in different publications including International Tax Review ("ITR"), "Taxation", "CCH's China Tax Guide". She was quoted as Recognized Tax Adviser, “World Tax Guide” by ITR in 2009 and was named as an Indirect Tax recognized leader from 2012 through to 2021.  She was also continuously recognized as a global leading indirect tax and Customs advisor.  Sarah is a Chartered Tax Advisor with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. She also works as a recurring lecturer for the University of Zurich, University of Shanghai and University of Wuhan.

Kelvin Ho is the China FA France Corridor Lead of Silk Connect and a partner at Corporate Finance Advisory of Deloitte China.

 

Kelvin has 30 years of professional services experience, including investment banking experience in Greater China, M&A transaction services, and auditing with Deloitte and another accounting firm in Hong Kong and the Mainland China.  He is a responsible officer of type 6 activities under SFC of Hong Kong, who is eligible to advise clients on takeover and privatization of listed company in Hong Kong.

 

Kelvin also has ample experience in M&A advisory across various sectors, including general industrial, building materials, food and beverage, retail, waste water treatment, and machinery.  He has extensive practical experience in advising clients on matters and/or transactions relating to Hong Kong listing rules, takeover codes, privatization, pre-IPO fund raising for IPO candidates in Hong Kong.

Xinpeng Xu is Professor of Economics in School of Accounting and Finance, Faculty of Business, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is also Director of Faculty of Business – Belt and Road Centre, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a Research Associate at the Australia-Japan Research Centre, the Australian National University, Australia.

 

Prof. Xu’s research expertise lies in the areas of International Economics and Development Economics. He is the recipient of Hong Kong Research Grant Council’s competitive General Research Fund. He is also the recipient of Faculty Prize for Outstanding Performance/Achievement in Teaching. Professor Xu was Visiting Professor to many leading universities in the world and was invited to give Public Lecture at Peking University in China, among others. Prof. Xu has many years’ experience in teaching at the level of MBA, EMBA, DBA and Doctor of Management in both Mainland China and Hong Kong. He has published many papers in reputable international refereed journals. He served as Co-Editor of Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies and Senior Editor of China Accounting and Finance Review.

 

Professor Xu served as a consultant to international organizations such as OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation). He is listed in Marquis Who's Who in the World® 2016 (33rd Edition) that distinguishes him as one of the world’s leading contributors to his field.

Jocelyn is the CEO of CEB International Investment CO., Ltd., a Hong Kong-based financial service platform which is wholly-owned by China Everbright Bank Company Limited (6818.HK, 601818.SH). She graduated from the Tsinghua MBA program and is currently completing her DBA at Poly U.

 

Spending more than 20 years in banking and financial industry, Jocelyn contributed most of her time at corporate business line at China Everbright Bank. In March 2015, Jocelyn, together with her team, came to Hong Kong with support and expectation from the main office, to establish an investment banking company of China Everbright Bank oversea from scratch. And in the span of two years, CEBI has built multiple platforms from investment banking to asset management to cross-border business in both Hong Kong and Mainland China.

 

Serving as the CEO of CEB International Investment, Jocelyn has led her team to steadily compete in the fiercely competitive Hong Kong financial market and achieved multiple successes in various fields, including bond underwriting, IPO, and equity investment in high-value projects. Through systematic and effective management and her unique perspective on macroeconomic policies, while providing ample number of clients with high-quality financial services, it has enabled the company to achieve steady growth and continue to increase its performance year by year.

Mr. Zhenyu Zhang

Mr. Zhang is a member of Chartered Institution of Building (MCIOB), with a bachelor's degree and a Master of Engineering in project management from Tianjin University; he is also a candidate of doctor of business administration of Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Mr. Zhang has a long working experience in Africa, and has a complete experience in the entire implementation process of the gas turbine power generation projects. He also has a rich project development experience. Currently he is engaged in investment and financing works related to the Belt and Road projects.
