The 2nd International Conference
on Impact of Movies and Television on Tourism

With the world-famous movie star Professor Jackie Chan as the title sponsor, the SHTM was proud to host the 2nd International Conference on Impact of Movies and Television on Tourism from 21 to 23 May in Hong Kong, the Hollywood of the East.

Officiating guests at the Opening ceremony included Miss Margaret Fong, Commissioner for Tourism, Mr Michael Nisky, Chairman of the SHTM Advisory Committee and General Manager, JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, Mr Ronnie Ho, Chairman of the Travel Industry Council, Ms Maisie Cheng, Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing, HKSAR Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority, Ms Cynthia Leung, General Manager, Corporate Communications, Hong Kong Tourism Board, and Professor Kaye Chon, SHTM Director.

Movies and television dramas have induced a new trend of tourism and created new opportunities for various destinations. In response to this trend and the impact that movies and television have on tourism, particularly on marketing destinations, the SHTM initiated the world's first international conference on the theme in 2006. Building on the success of the first conference, the 2nd International Conference on the Impact of Movies and Television on Tourism provided the international community with an interdisciplinary forum to exchange information, ideas and views, and to consolidate research efforts and industry experiences in the field. The Conference brought together educators, scholars, researchers, film industry practitioners, government policy makers, destination promoters and tourism professionals from around the world to converge on Hong Kong, the ideal place for such a conference.

The synergy that comes from the collaboration of the movie and tourism industries is substantial and rewarding. SHTM believes that the new direction will generate a new range of opportunities for both industries to further prosper.
