UNESCO Chair, University of Burgundy

Created in October 2007, the UNESCO Chair "Culture and Traditions of Wine" of the University of Burgundy is the only UNESCO Chair in the world on vine and wine. Its objective: to develop, promote and disseminate all the knowledge on the vine and wine in the world, all disciplines combined.

To carry out these missions, the Chair relies on a vast international network of more than 65 universities in Europe, South America, North America, Asia and Oceania. For 12 years now, she has been talking with each other of the world's vineyards and their researchers by organizing international symposia, seminars and international conferences; awarding scholarships, supporting academic training, research programs, publications. However, all these actions proceed from the same principle: to allow the public to better apprehend the wine as cultural product, vector of civilization, whose enlightened consumption is reminiscent of a real “Art de Vivre” connected to conviviality, sharing and human values if ever.

University of Burgundy is the only university in the Burgundy region. Located between Paris and Lyon, uB has its main campus in Dijon, and several others spread across Burgundy. UB fulfils a dual mission of education and research in all scientific fields, among which Social sciences, Humanities, Physical sciences, and Life sciences. UB enrols 27,000 students, among whom 3,000 international students, every year.

Research at the University of Burgundy is organized around 6 scientific sectors: Food and Environment, Health and Molecular Engineering, Photonics and Advanced Materials, Learning and Care, Heritage and Territory, Vine and Wine. Vine and wine are support (research and education). At the University of Burgundy, vineyards and wine are centers of education and research supported by many multidisciplinary institutions, including the University Institute of Vine and Wine "Jules Guyot". The Institute is one of the 5 French centers to award the National Oenologist Diploma. He also trains many PhD students in cutting-edge research on vine and wine.

The uB has 29 research units as well as 4 doctoral schools which welcome more than 1000 doctoral students, 25% of whom are foreigners.
